What He Found in the Ice

It was winter in Southern Cropus Maximus and the people there were at a loss. They had nothing to do because they lived their lives to grow things and to live at peace. They were not trained at to do battle, nor did they have any weapons to defend themselves. The two things that they had were their brains and their hoes. This year in particular was a marker in their history because of the large quantity of wheat and grain.

Now, our main character is snowed in at home with his dull witted cousin and is barely able to get out.

“Your move,” said Rickey to his cousin named Jake.

They were playing an intense game of chess. Rickey prided himself on his chess playing skills. He was a smart boy with intelligent gray eyes and loved strategy.

“You’re too good for me,” complained Jake.

He was eager to beat Rickey, but he did not have the patience. He could not stand the torture of sitting and waiting for hours on end.

There came a knock at the door. The caller turned out to be his mother. She had quite a journey getting across his messy room.

“ There is a caller on the phone for you,” she said calmly.

“I’ll take it up here,” responded Rickey.

He was very proud of the new phone that his uncle from Endarsus gave him. They were the most advanced out of the the three countries of Upper Earth. Their country has it’s own story in which they start a war and lose to Dominus Totalus. There are misunderstandings about their country that they are traitors or something.

Rickey took the call in his room and he was completely surprised by the loud screech that greeted his hello on the other line.

He quickly dashed downstairs and right to his mother leaving his confused cousin looking bewildered in front of the board.

“Did you hear anything odd like an EAR PIERCING SCREAM on the other line?”
Rickey was clearly upset.

“No, I heard nothing of the sort,” said his mom.

Rickey looked thoroughly confused and frustrated at the same time. Suddenly, he looked out the window and saw a white camouflaged figure in the snow pounding on his door! He rubbed his eyes. Still there.

Once he gathered his wits, snow shoes, and coat, he dashed outside in the freezing cold. He was amazed at first to feel the cold air on his cheeks. He silently crept along the side of his house. When he peeked around the side of the house his foot hit something in the snow. It was something like the tales that his uncle tond him about the new device that the King’s inventor came up with. It was called a cell phone.

Could this be who the mystery caller was?

Finally giving up effort to knock down the door, the beast,who had matted white fur and muscles like basketballs, left the house with the same screech and a frustrated grunt.
Rickey dropped the phone and ran back to the safety of his room.

“Did you hear that?”

“No, I didn’t hear any thing. All I know is that you dashed out of the room in a whirl.”

Then it all came to him. He was the only one that could hear or see the thing. It was the thing that called him. How did his mom know it was for him?

Maybe it was a shape shifter. That was it, the Abominable Snow Man was a shape shifter and he was out to get Rickey and he was the only one who could hear or see it. Yea right.

BOOM...

The last thing he saw was a round mass of black breaking his window.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Check-Mate!” declared his cousin in triumph.
“What!” “W-What happened?”
He looked up, yawned, and guess what, it really was check mate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Mom, I’m having strange dreams lately,” Rickey declared at dinner a few weeks later.
There were many others after the first. They got stranger and stranger every time he dozed off.
By the way, Rickey lived in the only mountain range in Cropus Maximus.

Then he thought of something, he would ask his father. He was an important man in the Cropus Maximus Circle of Council. These men were the people who you would come to when you were having troubles in dreams or any other matter that you were concerned with. If anyone could help him it would be his father.

His father listened intently and surprisingly, he believed him thoroughly. He was not surprised either. This was confusing to Rickey because nobody so far would buy any of it.

“ This has happened once before and it was not a pretty site. The beast that you speak of is indeed called the Yeti. It is more commonly known as the Abominable Snow Man. They are half gorilla and half human. None of the people here know about their history or how they came into being. They are known for being wild and vicious. There are a select few that can hear and see the Yeti. These people and only these people can bring peace between them and us. The last one that we had was killed and the Yeti now have a taste of human blood. They want more and they will only take it from the select few that I was telling you about. You are one of those people. Do you accept the challenge of destroying the race of the Yeti? If you do accept, you will need a special weapon to even challenge the Yeti. It is the called, “Peace Reaper”. Will you accept?”

“Great, now I’m a hero” moaned Rickey. He had no intention of saving his own country, but he decided it was all for the best.

At once, they packed their metal detectors and food and set off for who knows what.

They had a good idea of where the sword was from the last attempt at the same mission, so they set to work in the cold ice.

After a few minutes, Ricky's detector started to beep like the dickens. They unpacked their ice picks and started to dig.

After a while, their efforts were rewarded when Rickey struck something solid. He picked it up and held it up. It was only a small dagger of about a foot. He knew at once though that it was the Peace Reaper because of the surge that he felt when he held it. This was all? All these myths and legends and it all lead to a small dagger?

On their way home, they cheered and whooped about how their settlements would not be destroyed.

In the midst of all this Rickey did not notice the bulging figure of a Yeti that was in mid-leap to his father!

A mass of white, a roar and a screech and it was on his dad. Then he realized that his dad could not see or hear the Yeti. He could not fight back under the weight of the thing.
Rickey ran and leaped onto the beast. He had no fighting skills so he simply plunged Peace Reaper into the back of the Yeti. It roared in pain and evaporated in an instant. It was done. There were no more Yeti to terrorize their villages. His father had told him the the first blood of the Yeti would be enough to bring peace between them. That was it, that was what he found in the ice. There would be no more attacks or deaths only peace like before.
